Shadow War is not won by Resonance alone.

In the Alley of Blood format, coordinated lanes, Specialist Skill selection, objective control, attendance, and player roles can matter just as much as individual character power.

This guide provides a practical framework Slayers Inc. members can use when preparing for Shadow War.

Important: This is not the final authority on Shadow War strategy, and nothing here should be treated as permanently set in stone. Matchups, class balance, player availability, Specialist Skills, game mechanics, and our own experience can change how we approach a war.

Use this as a reference and starting point. During an actual match, instructions from the assigned room leader or shot-caller take priority.

Shadow War at a Glance

Shadow War uses the Alley of Blood format.

Each individual battle is a single-lane 8v8 match between two Shadow Clans.

Across the full Shadow War, clan members may participate in matches divided among four room levels:

Eminent
Exalted
Famed
Proud

Each room level contains three individual matches, allowing the war to expand across as many as twelve matches depending on participation and room availability.

The Battlefield

Each side has:

1 Crystal Heart
2 Sentry Towers
A single shared lane
Sacred Guardians / super minions that push toward enemy structures

The primary objective is simple: destroy the enemy Crystal Heart before they destroy yours.

If neither Crystal Heart is destroyed before the match ends, remaining structures and overall team performance become important in determining the winner.

Understand Your Role

Every player entering Shadow War should understand what they are expected to contribute to the lane.

Your job is not simply to chase kills.

Depending on your class, build, Specialist Skill, and room composition, you may be responsible for:

Holding the frontline.
Escorting Sacred Guardians.
Applying pressure to enemy towers.
Eliminating vulnerable enemies.
Controlling the central clash area.
Disrupting high-priority enemy players.
Protecting teammates during pushes.
Supporting the team with buffs, shields, or crowd-control immunity.

Slayers Inc. Tip: A player doing the correct job for the lane can contribute more to a win than a stronger player fighting in the wrong place.

Specialist Skills

Every player receives an additional Specialist Skill slot specifically for Alley of Blood.

These skills are extremely powerful and should be selected as part of the team's overall composition rather than chosen randomly.

Specialist Skills are divided into categories. A team should not stack more than two players into the same Specialist category, although players within that category may select the same individual skill.

Focus

Anguish Brand

Marks an enemy player for a short period.

As the marked target loses Life, they can drop Champion's Marks. When the mark expires, additional damage is dealt based on the Life they lost while marked.

This is useful for pressuring priority targets and stripping accumulated Champion's Marks from dangerous enemy players.

Stone Hex

Curses an enemy and temporarily turns them to stone.

Stone Hex is particularly useful for shutting down dangerous enemy players, interrupting pushes, and creating an opening for coordinated burst damage.

Siege

Guardian's Call

Summons a Guardian that advances down the lane and attacks enemy Sacred Guardians and structures.

The summoned Guardian must be escorted. If the player using Guardian's Call moves too far away, the Guardian stops advancing.

This makes Guardian's Call particularly useful for players who can survive at the frontline and remain close to the push.

Siege Weapon

Deploys a temporary turret that prioritizes enemy structures and deals area damage.

Siege Weapon is most valuable when your team has created enough space for it to pressure a tower or Crystal Heart safely.

Skirmish

Dwindlemurk

Releases a fan-shaped cloud that weakens enemy players caught inside it.

Affected enemies suffer reductions to maximum Life, damage, and character size for several seconds.

This is extremely useful before a coordinated team push or against powerful enemy players.

Executioner's Glare

Fires a long-range line attack through enemies.

Enemy players below the execution threshold can be killed instantly.

This makes Executioner's Glare particularly valuable for finishing weakened targets attempting to disengage.

Support

Blessing of Momentum

Grants nearby teammates temporary immunity to loss-of-control effects and increases Attack Speed.

Use it during coordinated pushes, defensive holds, or moments when your team needs to move through heavy crowd control.

Justice Shield

Creates a temporary wall that absorbs incoming projectiles from its front.

This can create safe space during a push and reduce pressure on teammates advancing behind the frontline.

Recommended Slayers Inc. Role Assignments

The following are recommended starting points, not hard class restrictions.

Frontline / Tower Pushers

Common fits:

Barbarian
Crusader
Tempest

Useful Specialist options include Guardian's Call, Siege Weapon, or another skill that reinforces the current push strategy.

Your primary responsibilities are to:

Absorb pressure at the front of the team.
Help manage tower aggression.
Escort Sacred Guardians.
Create space for damage dealers.
Maintain pressure on enemy structures.

Executors / Assassins

Common fits:

Demon Hunter
Blood Knight
Warlock

Useful Specialist options include Executioner's Glare and Anguish Brand.

Your primary responsibilities are to:

Pressure the enemy backline.
Identify weakened targets.
Finish enemies before they can retreat or heal.
Secure Champion's Marks.
Punish enemies who overextend.

Zone Control / Crowd Control

Common fits:

Wizard
Necromancer
Warlock

Useful Specialist options include Stone Hex and Dwindlemurk.

Your primary responsibilities are to:

Control the central clash area.
Interrupt enemy pushes.
Disable dangerous enemy players.
Protect your frontline from counter-engagements.
Create openings for coordinated burst damage.

Support / Utility

Common fits:

Crusader
Monk
Support-oriented Necromancer

Useful Specialist options include Blessing of Momentum and Justice Shield.

Your primary responsibilities are to:

Protect teammates during coordinated pushes.
Provide crowd-control immunity when needed.
Increase offensive pressure through buffs.
Reduce incoming ranged pressure.
Keep the push alive long enough to damage structures.

Room Deployment

Shadow War is divided into four room levels:

Eminent
Exalted
Famed
Proud

Each room level contains three individual matches: Match 1, Match 2, and Match 3.

Opening Additional Matches

When players begin entering a room level, Match 1 is available first.

Once six players have entered that match, the next match in the same room level can be unlocked.

The same process continues from Match 2 into Match 3.

However, the six-player threshold is not the only way the next match becomes available.

Once the preceding match starts, the next match in that same room level will open shortly afterward.

This allows additional clan members to continue filling matches even if the preceding match started without reaching six players.

Do not assume a room level is finished simply because the first available match has already started. Watch for the next match to open and continue filling your assigned level.

Why Attendance Matters

Attendance strengthens the clan in several ways:

It fills the active match.
It helps reach the six-player threshold needed to open the next match earlier.
It gives the clan players available when subsequent matches open after the preceding match begins.
It prevents valuable room levels from being left uncontested.

Attendance wins wars.

Deployment Priority

Our exact deployment may change depending on attendance and the opposing clan.

As a general framework:

Eminent and Exalted may receive a greater concentration of high-Resonance, high-survivability, or proven organized PvP players.
Famed and Proud still need players. Empty matches mean lost opportunities for points and pressure.
Players should follow room assignments rather than crowding whichever room appears strongest.
Once your assigned match is underway, pay attention to whether another match in that room level has opened and needs players.

Room Leaders & Shot-Callers

Each match may have a designated leader or caller responsible for coordinating the team.

Listen for calls involving:

Push timing.
Retreats.
Guardian escort.
Tower engagements.
Target priority.
Specialist Skill rotations.
Regrouping after deaths.

A coordinated team following one plan will usually perform better than eight players independently making different decisions.

Sacred Guardians & Tower Aggro

Sacred Guardian Escort

Sacred Guardians are one of the most important sources of structural pressure in Alley of Blood.

They move down the lane toward enemy Guardians, Sentry Towers, and eventually the Crystal Heart.

Clearing a path for them should be a major team priority.

Players using Guardian's Call must stay near their summoned Guardian or it will stop advancing.

Frontline players should generally:

Stay with the Guardian push.
Create space ahead of the Guardian.
Prevent enemies from freely attacking it.
Avoid abandoning the push simply to chase a kill.
Turn Guardian pressure into tower or Crystal Heart damage.

Slayers Inc. Tip: A won fight matters most when it becomes structural damage.

Tower Aggro Control

Sentry Towers are major defensive structures.

Their targeting behavior matters.

Towers normally prioritize Sacred Guardians within their range.

However, a tower can switch its attention toward a player who attacks one of the tower's allied players while fighting inside its protected area.

Do not casually fight under enemy towers unless:

The team has committed to the engagement.
Your frontline is ready to absorb pressure.
The target can realistically be eliminated.
Your Guardian or Siege pressure is already forcing the tower to react.
The team is prepared to immediately convert the advantage into structural pressure.

Randomly diving inside tower range can turn a winning push into unnecessary deaths.

Champion's Marks & Match Flow

Champion's Marks

Champion's Marks are a major snowball mechanic within Alley of Blood.

They can drop from:

Enemy players.
Sacred Guardians / super minions.
Enemy towers.

Collecting Marks increases your character's combat power and visual size during the match.

You can accumulate up to 99 Champion's Marks.

Death is expensive.

When you die, you lose roughly half of your accumulated Marks.

Slayers Inc. Tip: A player carrying a large stack of Marks should value survival far more than a low-value chase.

Protect the Advantage

Champion's Marks can create a major difference between two otherwise similar players.

If you have built a strong stack:

Avoid unnecessary dives.
Stay with teammates.
Use Bandages intelligently.
Do not chase low-value kills deep into enemy territory.
Use your increased power to help break structures.

The goal is not to collect Marks simply to become stronger.

The goal is to convert that power into lane and structure control.

Match Start

Everyone begins the match with a short burst of increased Movement Speed.

Use this opening boost to establish lane position and prepare for the first clash rather than immediately overextending deep into enemy territory.

The opening fight should be about establishing control, collecting Marks, and preparing for the first meaningful Guardian and tower push.

Bandage Management

Normal Health Potions are replaced by a Bandage during Alley of Blood.

The Bandage has a 60-second cooldown.

Whenever possible:

Disengage before healing.
Move behind your frontline.
Use friendly structures and terrain to create space.
Do not waste the Bandage while actively being focused.
Be aware of the cooldown before committing to another dangerous engagement.

Create space first. Heal second.

Death and Resurrection

Death does not remove you from the match permanently.

You will automatically resurrect after a delay.

However, resurrection time increases as the match progresses.

This makes late-game deaths considerably more dangerous than early-game deaths.

A late wipe can give the opposing team enough time to destroy towers or finish the Crystal Heart before your team can return.

This becomes even more important for players carrying a large number of Champion's Marks because death also removes roughly half of that accumulated advantage.

Push as a Team

A strong push combines several roles at the same time.

Sacred Guardians advance down the lane.
The frontline moves with them and creates space.
Control players disrupt enemy defenders.
Support players activate immunity, shields, or offensive buffs.
Damage dealers pressure priority targets.
Executors finish weakened enemies.
The team immediately converts the player advantage into tower or Crystal Heart damage.

The exact order will change depending on the room composition and situation.

The important part is that abilities support one another rather than being spent independently.

The goal is not merely to win a fight.

The goal is to turn a won fight into structural damage.

Know When to Retreat

Not every fight needs to be finished.

Backing away can be the correct decision when:

Your Sacred Guardian is not present.
Several teammates are dead.
Your important Specialist Skills are unavailable.
The enemy has a clear numbers advantage.
You are fighting inside unfavorable tower range.
A high-Mark teammate is in danger of dying.
Your team needs to regroup before the next push.

A controlled retreat preserves Champion's Marks, reduces staggered deaths, and gives the team another coordinated opportunity to attack.

Late-Game Strategy

As the match progresses, deaths become more punishing because resurrection timers increase.

If the Crystal Hearts are still standing late in the match, structure control becomes increasingly important.

Protect your remaining towers while continuing to pressure enemy structures.

Do not throw away a structural advantage simply to chase kills.

If time expires without either Crystal Heart being destroyed, remaining structures and overall team performance become important in deciding the winner.

Every structure matters.

Common Shadow War Mistakes

Chasing Kills Instead of Structures

Kills should create an objective advantage.

If the enemy dies and your team continues chasing instead of attacking a tower or Crystal Heart, the advantage may be wasted.

Ignoring Specialist Composition

Specialist Skills are part of the team's strategy.

A room filled with the wrong mix of roles can be weaker than a lower-Resonance team with better coordination.

Abandoning Sacred Guardians

Guardians create structural pressure.

Protect the push rather than abandoning it for unnecessary kills.

Fighting Under Enemy Towers Without a Plan

Tower aggression can quickly turn an otherwise favorable fight.

Burning Bandages During Active Combat

Create space first. Heal second.

Ignoring Shot-Calls

Individual improvisation should not repeatedly override coordinated team calls.

Ignoring Champion's Marks

Marks represent temporary combat power.

Collect them, protect large stacks, and punish enemies carrying them.

Ignoring Newly Opened Matches

Once a match begins, another match in the same room level may open shortly afterward.

Do not assume your participation opportunity is gone because Match 1 has already started.

Skipping Shadow War Because Your Resonance Is Low

You can still contribute.

Attendance, room filling, objective play, support, lane pressure, and opening additional matches all matter.

Quick Shadow War Checklist

Different opponents may require different room assignments, Specialist Skills, builds, target priorities, or lane strategies.

Remember that Shadow War is bigger than one room or one match. Filling additional matches, following assignments, and getting clan members into available rooms can matter just as much as individual performance.
